Call for Papers: Cancer Evolution and Metastasis

New Content Item

Guest Editors: Christina Curtis and Florian Markowetz

Genome Biology is currently inviting submissions for the upcoming special issue on Cancer Evolution and Metastasis.

The issue, which is planned for the second half of 2020, will be guest edited by Christina Curtis at Stanford University and Florian Markowetz at Cancer Research UK – Cambridge Institute.

Genomic research has helped us realize that cancer cells are dynamic populations that respond to different cues. Cancer cells can be viewed as diverse individuals, similar to humans within a population, with both intra-tumor heterogeneity and inter-tumor heterogeneity. One population can change to another over time, they evolve and migrate along with the changes of their micro-environment, with or without therapies.

These changes happen gradually and understanding this dynamic process is helping us to manage cancer as a chronic disease. In this special issue, Genome Biology aims to showcase the recent efforts in understanding the mechanisms driving cancer evolution, heterogeneity, and metastasis.

The special issue will accept Research, Method, Short Report and Database manuscript submissions presenting outstanding contributions that highlight the new findings in the field of cancer and immune evasion, including (but not limited to) in the areas of:

-    Genetic mechanisms of cancer initiation and evolution
-    Epigenetic mechanisms
-    Metastasis
-    Tumor heterogeneity
-    Tumor microenvironment
-    Immunogenomics
-    New tools and techniques for the analysis of the above

Submission deadline: May 31st 2020

Please use the online submission system and indicate in your covering letter that you would like the manuscript to be considered for the ‘Cancer Evolution and Metastasis’ special issue. If you would like to inquire about the suitability of a manuscript for consideration, please email a pre-submission inquiry to editorial@genomebiology.com.

Peer Review Taxonomy

This journal is participating in a pilot of NISO/STM's Working Group on Peer Review Taxonomy, to identify and standardize definitions and terminology in peer review practices in order to make the peer review process for articles and journals more transparent. Further information on the pilot is available here.

The following summary describes the peer review process for this journal:

  • Identity transparency: Single anonymized
  • Reviewer interacts with: Editor
  • Review information published: Review reports. Reviewer Identities reviewer opt in. Author/reviewer communication

We welcome your feedback on this Peer Review Taxonomy Pilot. Please can you take the time to complete this short survey.
