Three CNEs are not detectable in the pipefish dlx1a-dlx2a cluster. One CNE present in other teleosts and mammals is missing from a gapless region between exon1 and -2 in the S. scovelli assembly (red arrow). Two other CNEs in the dlx intergenic region that are conserved among percomorphs are also missing from this region in pipefish (orange arrows).
