PastDB: An atlas of alternative splicing profiles and functional annotations in A. thaliana. vast-tools [25] was used to profile 516 independent RNA-seq datasets comprising a wide diversity of tissues, developmental stages, mutants for RNA-processing factors, and physiological and stressful environments. The barplot shows the number of identified AS events by type across developmental time courses and mature cell and tissue types. Each AS event possesses a unique and constant event identifier (EventID) across vast-tools and PastDB, allowing profiling of new RNA-seq samples with vast-tools and direct contextualization of interesting events in PastDB. For each EventID (e.g., AthEX0034144), PastDB provides functional information, including a graphical display of splicing and gene expression levels across samples, sequence features, genomic context through the UCSC Genome Browser, suggested primers for RT-PCR validation, and multiple protein features (e.g., domains and disorder regions). AthEX0034144 corresponds to a previously described AS exon even located in XBAT35 [26]. The number of AS events depicted corresponds to all PastDB samples excluding the RNA-processing factor experiments. ANK, ankyrin repeat; zf-C3HC4, RING finger domain
