  1. Using our measure of absolute mRNA levels, we have been able to identify the genes whose level of expression remains consistently high across a variety of growth conditions. These genes remain amongst the top 15% most highly expressed genes across all of the conditions tested. We have termed the genes whose level of expression does not vary greatly as invariant, and, therefore, the subset of genes included in this table is dubbed the 'abundant invariome'.
