The concentration of the compound was determined by integration of the area of a peak with a retention time of 17 min after HPLC separation; this is expressed relative to the concentration of pigment in adult plants at 0.09 W/m2 UV-B. Error bars are standard errors. (c) Absorption spectrum in acidic methanol of the purified compound after HPLC separation. The spectrum is similar to that obtained with a number of non-anthocyanin flavonoids; it could be a single molecule or a mixture of molecules with similar properties in the HPLC assay.
