Astronomy's lessons for genomics. The parallels between astronomy and DNA sequencing can be illustrated in terms of the extremely large initial data sets generated that are reduced in size and increased in information content by analytical algorithms. The processed information in each case can be provided with co-ordinates within a reference frame, allowing registration and integration of different types of data.
