A partial multiple alignment of S14 protein sequences is shown on the right (the complete multiple alignment used for tree construction contained 103 positions). Mitochondrial S14 protein from Vicia faba (GI: 134068) was included in the tree instead of a sequence from Arabidopsis, in which it was not detected. The sequence APE_s14 was translated from the complete genome sequence of Aeropyrum pernix using the TBLASTN program [44].
