(a,b) Boxplots showing the distribution of expression values at each time point during encystation and excystation for meiosis-associated but not meiosis-specific genes (a) and for genes with meiosis-specific roles (b). There is a trend towards increased expression at 24 h after induction of encystation. This pattern of expression is consistent with a model in which meiotic division gives rise to the four nuclei in the cyst.
