Quantitative RT-PCR for the transcript abundance of SAT family repeat sequences ( ALR , ALR _ and ALRb ). (a-c) Quantification of transcript abundance for ALR (a), ALR_ (b) and ALRb (c) repeat elements was performed on a panel of EsCM and CTRL LV samples (EsCM A to H and CTRL 1 to 16, according to Additional file 13), and normalized by geNORM obtained from housekeeping transcripts RPLPO and TBP. The two groups were compared using unpaired Wilcoxon rank-sum test. All three repeat elements were found to be significantly different from their respective CTRL group. Values shown are mean ± s.e.m. * P < 0.05. (d) Products from the qPCR reaction were run in a 2% agarose gel as shown. PCR reactions were TOPO-cloned and sequenced (not shown).
